2025 China Fiberglass Industry: Green Transformation, New Energy Synergy, and Consumer Upgrade Drive Breakthroughs

Article Content:

The fiberglass industry, a critical material sector in modern industry and civil applications, is undergoing a new wave of transformation. By 2025, China’s fiberglass industry is achieving breakthroughs not only in output and technology but also in three major directions: green transformation, new energy collaboration, and consumer upgrade. This article provides a systematic analysis of the current status, challenges, and innovation pathways within the industry.

Current Status: Steady Growth and Structural Optimization

In 2023, China’s total production of glass fiber yarn reached 7.23 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%. Among these, high-performance and special-type glass fiber yarn output amounted to approximately 98,000 tons, growing by 11.3%, indicating strong demand in the high-end market. Export performance also remained resilient, with fiberglass and related product exports reaching 1.797 million tons, an increase of 3.5%.

The industry is becoming more concentrated, with top players such as Jushi,Taishan Fiberglass, and Chongqing International collectively accounting for over 68% of national production capacity. These industry leaders are driving technological innovation and setting new benchmarks.

Driven by the “Dual Carbon” goals, the proportion of low-end products continues to decline, while high-performance products such as alkali-resistant epoxy silane yarn and direct roving are becoming more diversified. The adoption of smart manufacturing is deepening, with advanced enterprises achieving over 95% automated process data collection and seamless integration between MES and ERP systems. This significantly enhances production efficiency and customization capabilities, providing a reference for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including fiberglass mesh manufacturers.

Key Challenges: Insufficient High-End Supply and the Smart Manufacturing Gap

Despite notable achievements, the industry still faces structural challenges. High-performance products such as fiberglass mesh account for only about 1% of total output, and product consistency needs improvement to meet the demands of high-end markets. There are still gaps in core technologies, including special fiber manufacturing processes, sizing agents, and film-forming agents, when compared to international advanced standards.

Moreover, the adoption of smart manufacturing is uneven. Many SMEs, including smaller high-quality fiberglass mesh fabric supplier, struggle with capital and technical expertise, facing difficulties in upgrading equipment and adapting to new technologies.

Innovation Directions: Green Transition, New Energy, and Consumer Upgrades

1. Green Transformation: Eco-Friendly Materials and Circular Economy

Environmentally friendly fiberglass mesh is increasingly used in green building applications due to its high strength, thermal insulation, and soundproofing properties. Leading companies are transitioning from material suppliers to solution providers, participating in project design and promoting energy-efficient buildings. The industry is also actively establishing recycling systems to convert waste fiber into reusable raw materials through innovative technologies, reducing environmental impact.

2. New Energy Collaboration: Wind and Solar Synergies

The need for lightweight and corrosion-resistant wind turbine blades has driven R&D innovation in direct roving and high-strength glass fiber yarn. Fiberglass enterprises are deepening collaboration with wind turbine manufacturers to develop new composite materials suited for complex climatic conditions.

In the solar sector, high-performance fiberglass mesh serves as a key material in backsheets. Direct supply models help reduce intermediate links, enhance supply chain efficiency, and strengthen industrial coordination.

3. Consumer Upgrade: High-End Applications in Everyday Products

Rising consumer demand for environmentally friendly home products has increased the use of fiberglass-reinforced composites in high-end furniture and electronics. Companies are partnering with home furnishing and consumer electronics brands to launch customizable products, reaching end-users through integrated online and offline channels.

Electronic-grade fiberglass mesh is also expanding into applications such as 5G equipment and smart devices, becoming a new growth driver for the industry.

The Path Forward: Technological Breakthroughs and Comprehensive Smart Adoption

To transition from “large” to “strong,” the industry must focus on:

  • Strengthening R&D to overcome bottlenecks in high-performance fibers and sizing agents.
  • Building a self-sufficient industrial chain, integrating processes from raw materials to finished products.
  • Accelerating green manufacturing, promoting clean energy, and expanding waste recycling.
  • Advancing smart manufacturing across the entire industry, developing lightweight and low-cost smart solutions to help SMEs upgrade.

Looking ahead, China’s fiberglass industry remains in a period of strategic opportunity. Through sustained innovation, green transformation, and industrial collaboration, fiberglass enterprises can enhance their global competitiveness and achieve high-quality, sustainable development.
